GEBCO Gazetteer of Undersea Feature Names

The latest version of the gazetteer is now available to download in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and Adobe PDF form. This new release includes the 50 undersea feature names approved at the last SCUFN meeting, held in September 2010. The gazetteer currently has over 3,500 entries and includes information on the name, generic feature type and geographic location of features on the ocean floor. [more]

GEBCO bathymetry data now available as web map service (WMS)

The GEBCO_08 bathymetric grid is now available as a Web Map Service (WMS), a means of accessing geo-referenced map images over the internet. These maps can be viewed in a web browser; incorporated in your own web application or displayed in various GIS/mapping packages. [more]

The Nippon Foundation of Japan has provided funding for GEBCO to train a new generation of scientists and hydrographers in ocean bathymetry. The 12-month course, leading to a Postgraduate Certificate in Ocean Bathymetry (PCOB), has been held at the University of New Hampshire, USA, since 2004. Find out more about the course and how to apply for entry onto the course in 2010. The closing date for applications is 22 March 2010.

Interim Sub-Committee on Regional Undersea Mapping (ISCRUM)

Recognising the importance of the contributions of regional experts in improving its global bathymetric models, GEBCO has setup ISCRUM. It's aim is to build a closer collaboration with regional mapping efforts and coordinate, as well as encourage, the incorporation of their compilations into GEBCO.

The GEBCO_08 Grid, GEBCO's recently released 30 arc-second global bathymetric grid, has been used in Google Earth 5.0 as a foundation layer for its global 3D model showing the shape of the seafloor.

GEBCO have released the GEBCO_08, a global bathymetric grid with 30 arc-second spacing. It is a continuous terrain model for ocean and land, with land data largely derived from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM30) data set.
